Call 01527 873228 during opening hours and we'll take the whole order over the phone. No app, no website, no ordering system. Tell us what you'd like — or ask us to read the menu out, and we will.
That's meant as a genuine alternative, not a brush-off. If this website or the online ordering system is difficult for you to use, for any reason at all, the phone is the quickest route to your tea, and someone in the shop will always talk you through the menu, the prices, the allergens or anything else you need.
Same food, same prices, same everything: collection is usually ready in 10–15 minutes, and delivery takes around an hour, with a £13 minimum order and a £2 charge.
What we've done
This site was built with accessibility in mind from the start rather than bolted on afterwards. In practice that means:
- Proper structure. Real headings in a sensible order, landmarks, lists that are lists and tables that are tables — so a screen reader can make sense of a page rather than reading out a wall of text.
- Keyboard navigation. Everything you can do with a mouse, you can do with a keyboard, in an order that follows the page.
- Visible focus. Where you are on the page is always clearly outlined when you tab through it.
- Colour contrast targeted at WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA, including on buttons and links, so text stays readable in daylight and on a phone screen.
- Descriptive alt text on photographs that carry meaning, with decorative images marked as decorative so they aren't read out for no reason.
- Reduced motion respected. If your device is set to reduce motion, animations are turned down or off.
- It works without JavaScript. The menu, the prices, the opening hours and the contact details are all readable with scripting switched off or blocked.
- Text you can resize. Zoom in or increase your text size and the layout reflows instead of falling apart.
Where we stand, honestly
Our target is WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA. That's the standard the site has been built to, and it's checked with a keyboard and a screen reader as it's built.
What we're not going to do is claim full conformance. The site hasn't been independently audited, and a small family business saying "fully compliant" on a page nobody has checked is worth nothing. So: AA is the target, it's what we've built to, and if we've fallen short somewhere we'd rather hear about it than pretend we haven't.
The known limitation: the ordering system isn't ours
This is the important bit, and it needs saying straight.
Online ordering runs on Foodhub, a separate company's platform. When you tap Order Online you leave this website entirely. We didn't build it, we can't change how it's coded, and we can't fix its accessibility — we've no more control over it than you have.
So we can make no claim about how well it works with a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification, voice control or a switch device. If it doesn't work for you, that isn't your fault, and it isn't something we can patch.
Which is exactly why the phone matters. 01527 873228, during opening hours, and we'll take the order ourselves — collection or delivery, the full menu, the same prices.
Telling us about a problem
If something on this site doesn't work for you — a link you can't reach with a keyboard, text you can't read, an image with no description, a page that won't behave when you zoom in — please tell us:
- Phone: 01527 873228
- In person or by post: Ideal Fish & Chips, 110 Birmingham Road, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B61 0DF
Tell us which page it was and what happened, and we'll get it looked at. We're a chip shop rather than a software company, so we can't always promise a fix by return — but genuine problems do get fixed, and we'll tell you where we've got to.
This statement was last reviewed in July 2026 and describes the site as it stands.
Your questions, answered
I can't use the online ordering system — what should I do?
Ring 01527 873228 during opening hours and we'll take your order over the phone, for collection or delivery. The ordering system is run by a third party, Foodhub, so it isn't something we can fix — but the phone gets you the same food at the same prices.
Does this website meet accessibility standards?
We build to WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA and check the site with a keyboard and a screen reader, but it has not been independently audited, so we won't claim full conformance. If you find something that doesn't work, tell us on 01527 873228 and we'll look at it.
Does the site work with a screen reader, or without JavaScript?
It's built to. Proper headings and landmarks, visible keyboard focus, descriptive alt text on photographs, contrast targeted at AA, reduced motion respected, and the menu and contact details readable with JavaScript switched off. The separate Foodhub ordering system is outside our control.
